Spa Day With Summer & Fresh Local Deliveries
This post is in partnership with Pet Wants Jax Beach. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support House Full of Summer!
We're so happy you've joined us for Spa Day With Summer! Pets are family! (And all the pet-owners said, "Amen!") Amiright? If you've followed my blog or Instagram for any length of time, you probably already know how we feel about our sweet Summer girl who just turned 6 in June. She's a Great Dane and English Mastiff mix weighting about 160 pounds at her leanest weight. What a joy it is to come home to that darling face and happy wagging tail. Our fur-babies grace us with their presence here on earth for far too short of a time and it's important to make that time count.
We have found a fabulous local company, Pet Wants Jax Beach, that will help your furry friend live their best life by providing natural and nutritious answers to all of their diet and skin care needs. But, before I tell you about how wonderful this company is, let me explain why we use Pet Wants and why we'll never go back to our old ways!
First, I have to admit something, and it doesn't make me look like the best dog mom. I thought I could "get away with it", but I was wrong. The rather inexpensive food that I was feeding my dog was the main reason for her itchy, flaky, bumpy skin. Her food was considered a decent brand, but still she was losing patches of hair left and right. Once I thought it was clearing up, she would flare up again. Vet visit after vet visit, (and huge bill after huge bill) I spent time, energy and money trying to figure out what was wrong with her! Sadly, we were only addressing the symptoms and not the actual cause of the problem.
Summer gained a ton of weight in a short period of time because of the hormones that she was on which were supposed to address her irritated skin. I had to cut her food intake in half and watch her sad eyes beg for more food. Excess weight is bad for anyone, but especially harmful to extra-large dogs. She was tested for allergies but nothing was pin-pointed. It was awful.
We decided to completely change Summer's diet and see if it helped. It did! Within the month, her skin had cleared up and she was back to consuming regular amounts of food for her size. Summer eats the Whitefish Meal and Duck Meal Grain Free recipe. She absolutely loves it! If you've got a picky pooch, definitely give this a try! There are other recipes to choose from if you click here. You can then select the amount and frequency of your order.
Now, let this value-conscious girl tell you that, although her food costs a little more, we are literally saving SO MUCH money by eliminating all of the crazy vet bills we had before! AND Summer is so much healthier! We definitely think of her diet as a preventative measure that will keep us out of the vet's office and keep our Summer girl enjoying life with us for as long as possible!
Alright, let's talk about those big feet!
Pet Wants Paw Wax
Health starts internally, of course, but it's also important to know what you're putting on your pet's skin. For starters, Pet Wants Paw Wax is great for healing cracked, burnt, or injured paw pads. It is made locally with Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade doTERRA oils. It can serve as a barrier in harsh weather conditions, so apply it before walking in the heat or in cold, icey conditions.
Pet Wants Healing Salve for Dogs
Laying on our cement patio or an extended stay at doggy camp can really cause sore and rough elbow skin, so I've been using this Pet Wants Healing Salve for Dogs on those areas. Summer doesn't mind the nightly massage into her skin and it's completely safe if she decides to try to lick it. You can also apply it to hot spots, bacterial infections and cracked skin. You can see she likes the smell!
Pet Wants Skin Spray for Dogs
If you've ever witnessed your dog suffering from itchy bug bites (we've totally been there - puffy, swollen eyes and lots of itchy bumps), you know it's almost impossible to give them relief. But, by applying Pet Wants Skin Spray for Dogs, you can help naturally reduce the irritation from bites, itchy skin, and even burns.
Our guest bathroom turns into Summer's "spa" when it's time to get a bath and apply her sprays and waxes. She actually really enjoys her spa time! Who wouldn't?
Mosquito, Flea and Tick Repellent for Dogs
Preventative measures are always best, so don't forget to give your dog a safe defense against pesky insects with Mosquito, Flea and Tick Repellent for Dogs!
Pet Wants Calming Balm for Dogs
Lastly, if your dog experiences nausea or anxiety while in the car, or experiences diarrhea, etc., try using Pet Wants Calming Balm for Dogs.
(While these products are natural and completely safe for dogs and humans, some are NOT safe for use on cats.)
Here are a few more reasons why we love Pet Wants!
1. They deliver! With other food we've tried, we had to haul it home from the store or order it online and depend on the third party shipping companies to get it to us in time. Pet Wants will literally drop food and other goodies off at your front door according to your pre-arranged schedule!
2. We can trust that she's getting high quality ingredients. All of the Pet Wants foods are designed to meet or exceed the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control (AAFCO) dog food nutrient profiles for “All Life Stages”.
3. They get it. When I read the story of how Pet Wants was created by two women who struggled with incredibly similar stories to ours, I felt understood and relieved that a company out there was addressing these issues!
4. We're supporting a local business. We have personally met the owners of the Jacksonville Beach area location and they are fabulous people with a passion for dogs!
5. There's more than just food! Check out some of the other awesome products in their shop! Summer absolutely loves her flavored deer antler, which is high in protein and great for her tough chewing abilities. All dog parents should supervise their fur-babes while chewing. I typically give Summer 30-60 minutes of chewing per day, but use discretion based on your pooch's individual needs.
It was such a lovely day that Summer was more than happy to take her tasty deer antler out to the patio with me for a nice chew.
Whether your dog has experienced any similar skin and health issues, or you just want to help them live their best life, I hope this can be a helpful resource in giving the highest quality of life to your furry family member!
P.S. If you just need more of that beautiful mug in your life, you can follow Summer on her personal Instagram account.
