Office/Guest Room Before & After Lighting Transformation

The warm light just before sunset was so lovely the other evening that I had to get out my camera and snap a few pics. Of course, Miss Summer happily obliged when I asked her to sit in on my mini photo shoot in our new office/guest room. (Sans collar because those colors just don’t go with my neutral decor.) ;)
Before we get to the new decor, this is what the office looked like before:
This room is quite small and just off the front entry.
When it was still a deep green, carpeted little den, I imagined cozying up on a daybed in front of this window overlooking the marsh. It seems like I really nailed this vision because there is a lot to see if you keep your eyes peeled! Little boats drive past the front of our house, we have a bald eagle nesting across the marsh, a hawk fishes from the tree across the road and at night, some cute little owl likes to make himself heard. Once I’m done with all of the gazillions of things on my to-do list, I’ll be sure to relax right here. ;)
Check this out: Our old living room rug just barely fits! I’m such an Ace Venture fan that I just had to say “Like…a….gloooove” upon rolling it out. LOL
Since this looked like a great spot to curl up, it only made sense to have some good reading lights around this window. I went with a couple of vintage-look brass armed sconces with white shades and a black rim. They were made to order from this shop on Etsy. Ideally, I’d like to replace this loveseat from our old house with a cute daybed or pull-out sofa so that it can hold a couple of overnight guests. Until I find the right replacement, this will do. By the way, the loveseat is from IKEA. It’s the EKTORP in Lofallet Beige slipcovers. After receiving yet another question about my slipcover furniture sources, it dawned on me that I still have not blogged about them! Maybe I’ll dedicate a post to them soon. :)
The ceiling light had a pretty dated medallion, so I looked for a larger drum light to cover up the mismatched ceiling once the old fixture was removed. I have loved this brass scallop flush mount light from Ballard Designs for some time and was really happy to catch it on sale!
On the opposite wall where I’m standing to snap the photos is my desk and chair. It is nowhere near photograph ready, so just imagine it in your head haha! Hopefully I’ll be able to make some decisions about which art to hang in here soon. I tend to take a really long time deciding on the details.
There are two separate switches for the ceiling light and sconces. I love using the sconces in the evening because they have warm bulbs in them. I used to prefer a whiter light at night, but I think I’ve changed my mind. The warm bulbs are just so inviting!
Below are several of the lights that I contemplated as I was designing this office.
Arriving this week are the off-white linen cordless roman shades. I am sooo hoping they fit perfectly because I measured three times before I ordered! I ordered different shades previously on Wayfair and they really are so beautiful but they are just a quarter of an inch too big for my window and they didn’t come in the right size. I was so bummed and completely drained the night they arrived that I nearly had a meltdown after discovering they wouldn’t fit. So, on to the next one!
