Custom Upholstered Stools for the Breakfast Nook

I am so excited to show you my chinoiserie chic breakfast nook updates! While I’m happy with the light and bright transformation our breakfast nook (and whole house, for that matter) received shortly after purchasing our dated home, it’s remained mostly the same for the last four years. I switch out the pillows, wall decor and centerpiece for each season, but this time with the help of Ballard Designs, our breakfast nook is finally getting a makeover! I am THRILLED at the new additions to this space! I have long been a huge fan of Ballard Designs’ Chippendale style Dayna Counter Stools that go with our counter height table. They also come in bar and chair height, as well as four other finishes.
The best thing about these chairs is that they are pretty easy to reupholster all by yourself and with literally NO experience in reupholstering whatsoever! I am proof of this! I actually love the way the chairs look with their original light beige fabric, since I am always partial to neutrals. However, I was ready for a change and the amazing folks at my local Ballard Designs store helped me find just the right chair and fabric combination!
Here’s how Ballard Designs’ Design Solutions works:
Design Solutions is essentially free advice from Ballard experts either in your local store, over the phone or through email. It can be anything from getting some ideas on arranging a room, what furniture would fit best, picking out the right colors and fabrics, matching paint with swatches…and the list goes on!
If you choose an in store appointment like I did, you can bring in colors or fabric samples you’re wanting to match up and have some photos of your space and/or your inspiration photos with you to show to the design consultant.
My consultant was super helpful and it was fun to go through all of the different fabrics and chair color pairings and then reference the photos I showed her of my breakfast nook. There are several different pieces at Ballard that can be CUSTOM upholstered upon ordering! So, your product will be delivered with exact fabric you’ve chosen, all ready to go! I almost got these stools: X Bench I could sit here for hours and play with all the color selections on the website! There are multiple options to choose from and they would have looked so cute under my foyer console, at the foot of a bed, or even as additional seating in our family room.
But, since I ended up choosing the Dayna stool, we narrowed down the fabrics to a few of my favorites so I could take them home and pick out the one I liked best. Luckily, my favorite fabric went will the stools AND with the round counter height table I would be leaving in the breakfast nook. The below photo was taken in the evening, but you can see how the fabric does actually match the white of my previous table set.
Once the fabric was ordered for me, I picked up my stools and fabric roll and had lots of help loading them into my vehicle at the store. Everything fit perfectly and off I went to tackle the reupholstering!
I think the stools turned out wonderfully and I’m actually pretty impressed that I did it all by myself in just a couple of hours. If you’re like me and tire of color eventually, you will be happy to know that the fabric can simply be taken off by gently removing the staples under the seat. Amazing, right?
I hope you like the changes to my breakfast nook! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions! You can contact your local Ballard Designs store here to set up your free consultation, or take advantage of email or a phone conversation if you prefer. ;)
I’ve saved a few of my favorite fabric pairings as I played with the design tools on their website. Check them out below!
