Get a High-End Look for IKEA Furniture With Comfort Works Slipcovers + Details on Our Pull Out Sofa

Making Our Small 1970s Living Room Feel Bigger
Today, I’m talking all about the new slipcovers I received from Comfort Works and how our pull-out sofa is working out. I bought the IKEA FARLOV armchairs with white slipcovers and really love the way they look!
The original covers have a nice Hamptons look with a classic fit and pleated corners that can work in a traditional space or a more modern one. White was great for summertime, but I was really looking forward to trying out a different color on these chairs for fall. I decided to order my new slipcovers in a minimalist style - no pleats, just a straight box hem. To balance out our gray sofa, I chose a durable, creamy beige fabric.
Below, the new Comfort Works cover is on the left and the old IKEA one is on the right. You can see the color difference a lot better in person. I just happened to shoot on a bright sunny day.
The Comfort Works covers are extra snug. They’re a little tougher to get on, but I noticed that the tight fit makes the cushions “dent in” less easily after sitting on them! I’m a nut and hate to see fabric wrinkle or pucker up at all. These really do the trick keeping our chairs nice and neat looking.
The fabric is called Kino Natural. At first, I thought the color was going to have too much of a yellow undertone, but once I got the covers on I really liked the look! I’m so glad I went with the minimalist design. They kind of remind me of a few other high-end chairs I’ve seen online. They are really so spacious and comfortable to sit in with crossed legs, even for me, at 5’8”.
This fabric is quite durable and smooth, but Comfort Works actually offers a nice selection of “pet-proof” fabrics if you’re looking for something even more pet friendly.
There are beautiful linen and linen-blend lines, as well!

I’m going to admit that I did not iron these covers at all! They were so well folded and packaged up that they hardly needed it. I snapped these photos immediately after putting the covers on, and the few slight wrinkles you see will even themselves out in a few days. Plus, I was really okay with a relaxed look.
Our sofa is still working for this space, in my opinion. However, my husband sometimes says it’s not that comfortable and he’d prefer a recliner. Granted, he spends more time sitting here watching TV than I do, so he may have a point. I will actually agree that the back of the sofa is pretty low and barely comes up to my shoulders when I’m sitting on it. If you’re watching a movie, there’s no where to rest your head unless you scoot down far enough that your (well, our) legs are hanging off the edge! I don’t watch much TV, and sometimes if I do, I watch it in bed on weekend nights. For the amount I use this sofa, I think it’s fine. I love that it pulls in and out so it doesn’t have to take up so much space. There are lots of fabrics to choose from, including Crypton, which is known for its stain-resistant qualities and durability.
This sofa fabric is stain-resistant, but we’ve only had it for about 6 months now. I can’t say whether or not I’m happier with this type of sofa vs one that has a cover that I can wash. There’s something about fabric being touched, sat on, laid on, etc. over the years and not being washed that kind of weirds me out. I just washed my old IKEA slipcovers for our EKTORP love seat and every stain came right out of them. They look like new, and this is why I love the idea of slipcovers so much, especially with a big dog!

I can’t stand to sit with my feet on the floor and now I don’t have to hurt my knees by sitting cross-legged on the furniture. I can stretch out and relax!
