Coastal Dining Room Refresh Using Natural Textures and Neutrals

I recently refreshed our dining room with a few new pieces that invoke a laid back, coastal feeling by way of natural textures and neutrals. I’m really happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to show you!
This is what it looked like before.
I loved the furniture I had in here before, but what sparked a change is the need for a little more functionality and storage. The previous console table was a beauty, but it only had three small drawers. My kitchen isn’t huge and I was running out of space for new appliances, like the food processor I’ve been thinking about getting. With a sideboard/console table that had cabinet doors, I’d be able to keep the less-used kitchen accessories in it.
I partnered with City Furniture on two of the new pieces in our dining room. The first piece I found was this amazingly priced credenza with cane webbing on the doors. It also sits a few inches above the floor which helps it feel more airy. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at the white-glove treatment we received from the delivery folks. I didn’t have to put anything together! AND, they placed the console exactly where I wanted it to go and added the shelves for me. That was so appreciated!
The wood tone is just perfect. It also has small, modern black knobs that go well with the large black mirror I hung last year.
Another item I wanted to switch out was the rug. I love my machine-washable rug and it’s very soft and easy to clean. I washed it and folded it up to use elsewhere or to switch back out at a later date. Since I was making changes, I figured I might as well dive right into the warm, woven textures that I’ve been loving and chose this white and natural striped seagrass rug, also from City Furniture.

I absolutely love the look, but be warned, it is not too easy on the feet! The seagrass makes it pretty hard to walk on, but our dog doesn’t seem to mind. :) It’s not like I’m crawling around under the dining room table, so I’m totally fine with it, too.
I also changed out the chair slipcovers. These IKEA chairs have served up a few different styles over the years and I thought it was time to swap out the floor length slipcovers for something that helped the space feel more open and airy.

The shorter slipcovers quite literally let a lot more light in. During the evening, the sun sets right into this room. It already feels bigger and brighter. They’re also only $10.

On the bar cart in the corner, I just little more greenery and a woven hurricane candle holder.
If I were to change out one more piece of furniture in this room, it would be for this table.
I found so many other cute pieces on this site, that I am hoping a bedroom makeover will be in our near future! The new Nantucket line is a modern coastal look with straight lines and textured accents. It’s definitely an affordable alternative to the Serena & Lily look we all love!
