Casual Coastal Summer Bedding & Decor
Do you want to know what one of my biggest summertime struggles is? Great, I'll tell you! Balancing the inside temperature with the outside temperature - good grief what is up with the freezing interiors in the summertime? Am I the only one that struggles to find a balance the whole house can agree upon? My side of the bed at night ends up looking like a giant heap of blankets and then I wake up too warm once the sun has come up and the room has heated up (hello, large husband and giant dog) from all the body heat overnight. Tell me I'm not the only one with this problem.
Alright, I'll end my rant with good news! I was gifted this gorgeous bedding from Boll & Branch and it has become the answer to my summer bedtime problems. Let me explain...
Their new Percale Simple Stripe Sheets in navy and white ticking have this really great texture - a smooth and cool feeling, like the sheets at a nice hotel.
The navy Banded Pillow Shams feel amazing. So silky smooth and they fit like a glove! I get my decorative king size pillows from HomeGoods, TJMaxx or Marshalls. Typically, I'll find a pair of Ralph Lauren extra firm king pillows for about $24.99, if I remember correctly. They fill up the shams perfectly!
I also received a white waffle blanket that is the perfect size! Don't you hate when blankets feel too "skinny" for your bed, then you end up playing a tug-of-war to keep from feeling a draft in the middle of the night? Well, this blanket will cover all of the bodies in your bed! I've found that it's the perfect thickness and it's also really soft!
Now, just because I have a warm and cozy, yet light and comfortable, waffle blanket on top of me when I get into bed does NOT mean that I'm warm like a normal human should be. I freeze at night upon getting in bed. So, I've paired this silky soft duvet cover with a very light down alternative duvet insert and it is perfect folded over at the foot of the bed!
Since I typically have plain white sheets, I took advantage of the pretty ticking pattern on these and just folded them over for a more casual and comfortable look.
It's really not long before Summer has to come and check on me while I'm styling or photographing a room. She's pretty much my shadow. I know all my dog moms can relate. ;) I think she's also a fan of the hydrangeas I picked up at Trader Joe's and/or she wants a taste of my coffee.
Go ahead, Summer, just make yourself right at home. We know you're the real reason people visit this blog. ;)
Let's talk about this rug for a quick second. Notice the giant dog? Notice the color of her fur? Yeah, it really contrasts with the navy rug I picked out, but the white medallion pattern helps mask all of the white furs. More importantly though, the dark navy color does not stain with any footprints (human or dog), and it's actually an outdoor rug from Home Depot. Amazing, right? It's one of my best finds at under $100 for this large size. It's soft on the feet too which makes it perfect for our bedroom and for Summer girl.
You may recognize these lamps from the foyer in my Loveliest Looks of Summer Tour. They are enjoying their new home in our bedroom while the foyer awaits an exciting new refresh! Details to come. :)
Speaking of new homes for decor, didn't I say these pretty over-sized outdoor pillows from my Blue Palms & Pineapples Outdoor Tablescape post would make their way to my bedroom too? They matched the rug so well that I just couldn't resist bringing them inside.
As you can see, I'm still digging the single sun hat hung above our headboard. Nothing says "casual decor" like the kind you can pull of the wall and wear. LOL
Lastly, a couple of matching palm fronds in simple glass bud vases finish off our bedside table decor. They last a long time and are the perfect pop of green I need in every room!
Well, I'm going to finish up my coffee (after I nuke it in the microwave for the third time) and I hope you'll subscribe to my newsletter if you haven't yet!

P.S. This is the only Rae Dunn item I own, but I think it's the perfect mug for summertime, don't you? :D
