Create a Romantic Backyard Date Night for $10 or Less
It's no secret that I love staying home. I also like saving money, so win-win for me when my husband agrees to a night in! Whether you just want to save a few bucks or you have kids and can't find a sitter, I hope you'll feel inspired to make the most out of your nights spent at home.
Don't get me wrong, a good Netflix binge and pizza delivery is always a good time, but this gorgeous weather has me wanting to enjoy the outdoors!
Would you believe I picked up two dozen roses for just $5? At our office, a rose gardener sells their extra bouquets and I always bring some home because what a deal! If you don't have a rose van man like I do, you can stop at Trader Joe's and get a pretty bouquet of flowers for $5, as well. If you don't have a TJ's near you, check your local grocery store, or just get creative and snip some greenery from your yard. Having something pretty to decorate your space will make your night feel a little more special and fun.
I happen to have a pantry floor filled with wine and other alcoholic beverages, so I just chose this delicious blueberry wine from Leelanau Cellars in northern Michigan. When my parents visit, I just have them bring me the sale wine from Meijer. ;) If you don't happen to have an alcohol stash, you can surely find some great wine for around $5 at the grocery store. My faves for great (and cheap) wine are ALDI and Trader Joe's. They have sparkling juices if alcohol-free drinks are more your style.
I have several options for outdoor glasses. These thick plastic wine glasses are perfect for outdoor entertaining, dining and date nights on the patio. I get most of mine at HomeGoods, but you can probably find them just about anywhere in the spring and summer months.
Use a garden stool for a side table, or bring out a small side table from inside. Make do with what you have - I bet you'll come up with some great ideas to decorate for your date night. :)
Get cozy! It's Florida, so we definitely won't be needing a blanket on a summer night, but if you're up where the night temps fall, grab a throw to cuddle up. I brought out a few outdoor pillows from the patio, but don't hesitate to pull a few pillows off the couch and bring them out. It's not like you'll be leaving them in the elements, so it won't hurt to use them outdoors for a date night.
You might be surprised how changing your scenery can make an evening feel more romantic and fun. I turned the chaise lounges around and rearranged the planters. We have a really nice breeze out here in the evenings and there's something so relaxing about being outdoors. Conversation can flow (with the wine) or you can just enjoy each other's company and the sounds of nature. I hope you have a great night in!
