Every time we go on vacation or leave for a long weekend, I'm concerned about my plants that are sheltered under the patio or porch, since most of them need to be watered at least every other day. Recently, I discovered these awesome planters through Jackson & Perkins that are designed to hold water in a separate compartment so that the plant can get as much moisture as it needs. 

Assembling the planter is really simple and only takes a few minutes to do. I decided to put my new hostas in the containers because our front porch seems ideal for these shade-lovers. This is my first time trying to grow hostas, so wish me luck! :D

Self-watering planters come in several different styles and sizes. The other top contenders for me were:

Cape Cod Tall Patio Planter White       

Nantucket Tall Planter 

Ultimately, I loved the chic and modern look of this Lechuza White All in One Cubico Color Self Watering Planter in 30 inch height.  It has a very smooth and durable exterior, perfect for our humid weather.

As you can see below, the planter has a small tube that allows you to measure the water level once you fill it up. The directions recommend watering the soil for the first few weeks and gradually shifting to the self-watering option. 

Can you spot miss Summer in the window?

Actually, Summer is a great model because she shows just how large and beautiful these planters are! She's a Great Dane and English Mastiff mix and stands just a foot taller than the planters.  "Look serious, Summer."

"Okay, now you can give us a silly face."

"Now how about a smile?"

I also chose this beautiful dried Blue Sky Wreath to accent my front door! It does best in dry climates, so summer in Florida is not ideal for leaving this beauty outdoors. 

Here is the wreath hung on the inside of my front entry, which  resulted in some sniffing. 

I absolutely love the light and airy  feeling these new planters and wreathe have brought to my porch. 

Here are some detail shots of the wreath. It's woven together and held by wire backing. There is also a ring attached to the wire so that you can easily hang it. 

Our curb appeal has definitely improved, don't you think?
