The Design Scheme & Inspiration for Our New Home Interior
You’re going to be seeing a lot of posts with “New Home” in the title because there are so many topics to cover and while we are living in our current/”old” home until our new home is move-in ready, I still have to distinguish between the two! But since I’ve been affectionately calling this house the “Bent Palm House” since I first saw it, I suppose I could start using her nickname. ;)
“What’s it going to look like?” I’m very excited to share with you the answer to the most common question I have received regarding the renovation of our new place, aka the Bent Palm House! I’ve posted a few inspiration photos recently on my Instagram feed which highlighted some pretty big differences in my current decor and what I have in mind for the new house. It’s kind of funny to say this, but it’s almost like this house “spoke” to me differently. It was just begging for some “modern vintage nautical” charm. And that’s just what she’s getting!
There was one light I saw on Pinterest that immediately looked nautical to me, but not too over the top. I wasn’t sure about the darker color of the globe, but I just kept coming back to it! There are many similar variations of this light on the market now and I’ve added a whole slew of them below so you can peruse! (and also check out some of the price differences. Eek!)
It took a few weeks to get over my own initial shock that I felt compelled to add *gasp* some darker accent colors! It’s a bold change in direction from the all light and bright neutral interior I have loved for the past few years, don’t you think? I figured since I had the chance to start fresh from the floors to ceiling (yep, almost everything is being replaced), I might as well change things up!

There will be a mixture of metals throughout the home, light walls, dark accents and coastal/nautical influences. This kitchen pendant light helped guide my decision to take risks in other spaces as well. I’m pretty sure you will not believe the tile I picked out for our guest bathroom!! I’ll be revealing the mood board for the bathroom soon! ;)
Overall, this home will have a warm and classic feeling with nautical accents. But I will be keeping things light enough that it will still feel very “beachy” and “summery” come spring and summertime. ;)
